JCC2017 will be sailing on Holland America Line’s ms Westerdam, which is the same ship we sailed in 2012—though it’s undergone a refresh since then.
The Westerdam is the perfect size for us in 2017, with enough venues, hangout spaces, and things to do to make the first full-ship JoCo Cruise an amazing experience. And all the trappings of modern cruise ships are there for us: pool decks, multiple dining options, a spa, a casino, and Holland America Lines’ friendly and attentive staff.
Did we mention the food? No? Well, those who sailed with us in 2011 and/or 2012 can corroborate it, but as much as you’re going to love what we have planned for you, HAL’s chefs are going to be close competition for winning your hearts, via your stomachs. Even lunch at the buffet is a joy, but if you’re inclined to splurge on a meal at the Pinnacle Grill, one of the Westerdam’s premium dining venues, you will the opposite of regret it.
Plus, because we bought the whole ship, we can even exercise some influence over what’s available for sale in the shops. More on that later; for now you’ll have to use your imaginations as to what kind of things folks in a group like ours might possibly want to purchase while assembled on a ship set up for smart and nerdy fun.
Ports of Call
Because we bought the boat for the week, we get to tell it where to go. (Toot-toooot!) So we’re taking JoCo Cruise where no nerdboat has gone before: through the Sea of Cortez, where unspoiled beauty is the name of the game. Most cruises don’t sail the Sea of Cortez because the towns along its coast aren’t really interested in appealing to the masses. But a group like ours es completamente simpatico. And there’s plenty to do, from world-class whale watching, to mountain adventure, and of course, top-notch beaches and malecones for relaxing and strolling.
Because it’s not ALL about the music and the gaming and the karaoke and the movie nights and the cocktail receptions; there’s also beaches and shops and forests and parasailing and hammocks and architecture and local restaurants and…[runs out of air] [collapses]…
